The journey ahead

Your 6-module curriculum

Each module builds upon the last, offering exercises and reflections to deepen your practice.

  • Lesson 1: Overcoming the Fear of Starting

Exercise: The "Three Lines" technique. Write for exactly three minutes without lifting your pen. No erasing allowed.

Lesson 2: Creating a Writing Sanctuary

Exercise: Describe your ideal writing environment using all five senses.

  • Lesson 3: The Art of Noticing

Exercise: A sensory scavenger hunt. Find five things in your room that are blue, and write a sentence about each.

    Lesson 4: Show, Don't Tell

Exercise: Rewrite a simple statement (e.g., "I was tired") into a scene that reveals the tiredness physically.

  • Lesson 5: Writing from the Inside Out

Exercise: Write a monologue from the perspective of an object in your room (e.g., the chair you are sitting on).

    Lesson 6: Dialogue and Voice

Exercise: Write a conversation between two characters who disagree on a small, mundane topic.

  • Lesson 7: Mapping Your Emotions

Exercise: Create a color map of your current feelings and write a short paragraph matching each color to a memory.

    Lesson 8: Forgiveness Letters

Exercise: Write a letter to someone (or yourself) that you have been holding onto resentment about. You do not have to send it.

  • Lesson 9: The Power of Pacing

Exercise: Write a scene that takes place over a single minute, then rewrite it to span an hour.

    Lesson 10: Themes and Metaphors

Exercise: Identify a recurring motif in your last week of journal entries and expand on it.

  • Lesson 11: Finding Your Audience

Exercise: Research three publications or blogs that align with your writing style.

    Lesson 12: The Final Collection

Exercise: Compile your best work from the course and format it into a simple digital document.

Module 1: The Blank Page

Exercise 1: The Three Lines

Find a quiet space and set a timer for three minutes. Do not think about what you are going to write. Simply write whatever comes to your mind. It can be nonsense, it can be a grocery list, it can be a complaint. The only rule is that you must keep your pen moving.

"The rain tapped a steady rhythm against the windowpane, a sound that usually annoys me but today felt like a gentle reminder to slow down. I poured the tea, watching the steam curl upwards like a question mark. I opened the notebook, the paper feeling cool against my fingertips. I didn't know what I was going to say, but I knew I had to start."

This exercise is about bypassing the inner critic. By committing to a fixed time limit, you remove the pressure of perfection. Often, the first few lines are the hardest, but once the flow begins, the words tend to follow naturally.
